摘要

The objectives of this study were to determine if the bronchoalveolar lavage(BAL) of human subjects exposed to ozone exhibited: (1) increased fibroblast stimulating activity (FSA) and/or (2) elevated levels of transforming growth factors (TGFbeta1 and TGFbeta2), proteins implicated as mediators of fibrosis in a variety of organ systems, including the lung. Human subjects were exposed to filtered-air and ozone (0.4 ppm) for 3-hr while performing intermittent, moderate exercise. It was concluded that exposure to ozone did not increase FSA in samples of airway and alveolar lining fluid, but ozone exposure may be associated with increased levels of TGFbeta, a cytokine implicated in the pathogenesis of lung fibrosis.
