Wright (1977) outlined procedures for equatingtests and test scores using the Rasch model. Thispaper summarizes the results of a study in whichthose Rasch model procedures are used to calibrateand then to link vertically six levels of the ReadingComprehension Test of the Iowa Tests of BasicSkills. The derived Rasch ability scale estimates arethen compared to norm-referenced, grade-equivalentscale estimates for scores across the testlevels. The results of these comparisons suggest thatwhere discrepancies in the two scales emerge, themore accurate and perhaps more useful measure isprovided by the Rasch scale.
