摘要

Approximately 90% of prisoners experience mentaludhealth problems, substance misuse problems orudboth. However, prison reception screening tools areudnot always effective in enabling staff to identifyudmentally disordered prisoners. Therefore, to ensureudthat these individuals get access to appropriateudcare, custodial staff should be trained in recognisingudthe signs and symptoms of mental health disorders,udand in effectively working with these individuals.udThis paper charts the pilot implementation of audmental health awareness workbook designed foruduse in custodial settings across England. It examinesudthe variety of approaches adopted to implementudthe workbook, staff views on the usefulnessudof the workbook, and barriers to implementationudencountered in each area. Recommendations madeudfor best practice in delivering the workbook inudother areas suggest a need for changes to itsudformat, but also that time should be ring-fencedudfor staff to participate in this training, in groups ledudby experts such as in-reach team members.
