The experiment was conducted with three bioflocudtreatments and one control in triplicate in 500 Ludcapacity indoor tanks. Biofloc tanks, filled withud350 L of water, were fed with sugarcane molassesud(BFTS), tapioca flour (BFTT), wheat flourud(BFTW) and clean water as control without bioflocudand allowed to stand for 30 days. The postlarvaeudof Litopenaeus vannamei (Boone, 1931) with anudAverage body weight of 0.15 � 0.02 g wereudstocked at the rate of 130 PL mud�2 and culturedudfor a period of 60 days fed with pelleted feed atudthe rate of 1.5% of biomass. The total suspendedudsolids (TSS) level was maintained at aroundud500 mg Lud�1 in BFT tanks. The addition of carbohydrateudsignificantly reduced the total ammonia-udN (TAN), nitrite-N and nitrate-N in water and itudsignificantly increased the total heterotrophic bacteriaud(THB) population in the biofloc treatments.udThere was a significant difference in the finaludaverage body weight (8.49 � 0.09 g) in theudwheat flour treatment (BFTW) than those treatmentudand control group of the shrimp. Survivaludof the shrimps was not affected by the treatmentsudand ranged between 82.02% and 90.3%. Theudproximate and chemical composition of bioflocudand proximate composition of the shrimp was significantlyuddifferent between the biofloc treatmentsudand control. Tintinids, ciliates, copepods, cyanobacteriaudand nematodes were identified in all theudbiofloc treatments, nematodes being the mostuddominant group of organisms in the biofloc. Itudcould be concluded that the use of wheat flour (BFTW) effectively enhanced the biofloc productionudand contributed towards better water qualityudwhich resulted in higher production of shrimp.
