The present invention relates to a flywheel (1) intended for the storage of energy in kinetic form, the container of which consists of a light envelope (2) (for example made of carbon fiber), filled with regolith of the destination star (21) like Mars or the Moon, in order to constitute its kinetic mass. Since the device according to the invention consists of a light envelope, it is possible to send it empty to the destination star (21). Several flywheels (7 in Figure 1) can be stacked on top of one another at the top of a space launcher (4). Once at its destination, the flywheel is filled using a charger (5) with the regolith (3) of the destination star (21) which constitutes the major part of the mass of the flywheel.
