The invention relates to an electronic control system. The system comprises an infrared telemetric sensor combined with a light sensor and a control circuit for controlling the actuator, for example to open and close a solenoid valve for sanitary fittings or to start or stop a motor such as a pump motor or any other mechanism, if a user is detected. The control circuit is configured to carry out a cyclic measurement of light (201) with the light sensor, and, in the event of measurement of a light intensity lower than a first predetermined threshold (S1) for example corresponding to the light intensity of a walkway night light, the measurement frequency of the ambient light intensity is fixed (208) at a first frequency F1 and the entire control system is then put to sleep (207) between two light intensity measurements.
