Power-assisted steering system for a motor vehicle comprising a steering wheel and an assistance motor controlled by a closed-loop regulation system, said regulation system determines an engine torque of the assistance motor as a function of a measured flywheel torque, at the means of at least one “setpoint tracking” branch calculating a component of the engine torque, called “deviation engine torque”, by subtracting a setpoint flywheel torque at RFe corresponding to the sum of the measured flywheel torque and the engine torque, characterized in that the deviation engine torque is multiplied by a gain determined by a three-dimensional mapping function of a vehicle speed and of the measured flywheel torque.
