Aspects of the invention include recognizing that all instructions in a first group of instructions being executed have a status of “finished”. The first group of instructions in execution is associated with a first allocated entry in a global closure table (GCT) which monitors an allocation order and a status of groups of instructions in execution. The GCT includes a plurality of associated entries that include the first associated entry and a second associated entry. A second group of executing instructions allocated immediately before the first group is associated with a second allocated entry in the GCT. Based at least in part on the detection, the first associated entry is merged with the second associated entry to produce a single merged second associated entry in the GCT, the completion information for both the first group of instructions in execution and the second group in execution included instructions. The assignment of the first assigned entry is then canceled.
