The present invention relates to a health functional food product showing effects in preventing and alleviating ocular fatigue, comprising luteolin-7-O-diglucuronide and apigenin-7-O-diglucuronide compounds contained in extracts of Perilla frutescens, wherein the effective components in a freeze-dried product and a spray-dried product of Perilla frutescens were found to equally contain luteolin-7-O-diglucuronide and apigenin-7-O-diglucuronide compounds. It was found that the effective components of the present invention, in squamous cell smooth muscle cells (rCSMCs) isolated from a rat′s eye, increase NO and cGMP contents involved in eye relaxation and reduce the contents of [Ca^(2+)]i ions. In addition, through an animal experiment, the effective components of the present invention increased the cGMP content. These compounds increase the cGMP content in rCSMCs isolated from a rat′s eye, and thus can be used as a functional health food composition beneficial to prevent and alleviate ocular fatigue.
