The present invention relates to a composition and a method for obtaining a biocomposite polymer material with flame-retardant properties. One of its compounds is henequen fibre obtained from Agave fourcroydes cultivated in the state of Yucatan, Mexico, and which is used as a flame-retardant additive of natural origin. The biocomposite polymer material is obtained by means of an extrusion process, using a biodegradable and compostable biopolymer as a polymer matrix. The biopolymer used is starch-based biopolymer. Commercial flame-retardant additives free from toxic compounds (halogenates) are added. The use of henequen fibre acts synergically as a flame-retardant additive of natural origin and replaces part of the content of the commercial flame-retardant additive, encapsulated ammonium polyphosphate, producing a biocomposite polymer material with flame-retardant properties with classification V1 according to the UL94 vertical position method. The material can be used in any process for transforming plastic for the production of panels or covers in the electrical, electronic and transport industries.
