A method assists the automated driving of a first vehicle (V1) driving on a road (R), storing known information defining roads, and analysing the environment in front of it in order to determine first information representative of this road (R) and its environment. This method comprises a step that involves: -determining trajectories followed by second vehicles (V2) from first determined information, and estimated road markings of the road (R) from first determined information, corresponding known road markings and determined followed trajectories, then determining a reference trajectory for the first vehicle (V1) depending on these estimated road markings, -determining a driving space of the first vehicle (V1) depending on first determined information, and -considering that the reference trajectory can be followed when it is compatible with this driving space.
