security authentication and key management within an infrastructure-based wireless multi-hop network a system and method of security authentication and key management scheme in a multi-hop wireless network provided herein with a hop security model -by-hop. the scheme adapts the key 802.11r hierarchy in the ap meshed network. In this approach, an upper key holder (rokh) derives and holds the upper master peer key (pmk_o) for each supplicant wireless device after the authentication process. any authenticator ap takes the level a key holder (r1kh) role and receives the next master pair key of the rokh level (pmk_1). the switch level data protection switch is derived from pmk 1 through the handshake of the way 802.11i 4.
