A method for reducing fecal calprotectin levels in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and preventing clinical recurrence. The present invention provides eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA-FFA) as a high-purity free fatty acid for reducing fecal calprotectin levels and reducing the risk of clinical relapse in UC patients.
