PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily calculate the abundance of a specific species of phytoplankton in a group of phytoplankton in which a plurality of species are mixed. A reference sample intensity ratio r0 measured or calculated in a reference sample, an overall reference sample fluorescence intensity I0 which is an intensity in substantially the entire wavelength band, and an abundance quantity K0 of a specific species of phytoplankton that can be contained in the reference sample. The other species plankton intensity ratio rd is calculated based on the above, and the analytical sample that is expected to be similar to the reference sample in terms of the composition of the phytoplankton group is irradiated with excitation light, and is generated from the analytical sample in each of the wavelength bands A and B. In addition to measuring the intensity of fluorescence, the intensity ratio r, which is the ratio of these two intensities, is calculated, and the overall fluorescence intensity I, which is the intensity of the fluorescence generated from the analysis sample in substantially the entire wavelength band, is measured, and the plankton intensity of other species is measured.
