The invention concerns a device (10) to kill at least one small animal, in particular a rodent,by introducing a CO2 -containing gas mixture into a cage housing the micro -animal. It is intended that the device (10) has a mixing device (14)-a first gas connection (32) for the supply of CO2 gas,a second gas connection (30) to supply another component of the gas mixture,a mixing chamber (40) connected to these gas connections for mixing the CO2 gas and at least one other component; andhas a third gas connection (28) to introduce the CO2 -containing gas mixture into the cage,where the second gas connection (30) and the third gas connection (28) are so designed and /or arranged that these two gas connections (28),(30) are simultaneously electrically connected to the cage. The invention continues to concern an appropriate method of killing at least one small animal by means of CO2.
