A method of manufacturing a sintered body for forming a sintered magnet and a method of manufacturing a permanent magnet which prevent the occurrence of cracks in a molded body while improving followability of the sintered body in sintering. Specifically, the magnet raw material is pulverized with a magnet powder, and the pulverized magnet powder and the binder are mixed to produce the compound (12). Then, the formed body 13 of the compound 12 thus formed is heated to a sintering temperature at a predetermined heating rate in a pressurized state, and sintered by keeping it at a sintering temperature. In the sintering step, the pressing force for pressing the formed body 13 is made to be less than 3 MPa until the predetermined timing during the temperature rise of the formed body 13 after the temperature rise of the formed body 13 is started, Is 3 MPa or more.
