Provided is a method for preparing functional liver (progenitor) cells or functional small-intestinal epithelial (progenitor) cells, said method comprising a step for culturing, in the presence of an antibiotic, an isolated cell population including liver (progenitor) cells or small-intestinal epithelial (progenitor) cells. Also provided is a substantially homogeneous isolated cell population including functional liver progenitor cells, wherein the expression of CYP3A4 in the functional liver progenitor cells is at least five times greater than the expression of the same in the HepaRG (registered trademark) cell line.
