PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact combustion type hydrogen gas sensor element having very high durability for a silicon compound.SOLUTION: A contact combustion type hydrogen gas sensor element 1 includes: a catalyst layer 2 which has catalytic activity accelerating combustion reaction of hydrogen gas; and a resistor 3 which generates change of an electric resistance value by being heated by heat generated when hydrogen gas burned on catalyst layer 2. The catalyst layer 2 is a branch-like or whisker-like electrodeposit having specific surface area 10 m/g or higher.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
