To provide a remote monitoring system capable of remotely monitoring an elevator which cannot transmit a signal output from a control microcomputer to an external terminal, and a general purpose radio terminal used in the remote monitoring system.SOLUTION: A remote monitoring system 1 includes: a monitoring terminal 2 connected to a public line; and an information terminal 3 connectable to the public line through radio communication and a control microcomputer 40 of an elevator 4 in which a signal output from the control microcomputer 40 is converted into a signal corresponding to the monitoring terminal 2 to be output and a signal output from the monitoring terminal 2 is converted into a signal corresponding to the control microcomputer 40 to be output.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
