To provide: a dense electrolyte solution for a rocking chair type secondary battery, which eliminates the need for using an expensive additive agent, which has good ion conductivity and electric charge transfer resistance characteristic, which is superior in oxidation stability and thermal stability and/or which can suppress the corrosion of an Al current collector under a high positive electrode electric potential environment; and a rocking chair type secondary battery that uses the electrolyte solution.SOLUTION: An electrolyte solution for a rocking chair type secondary battery comprises: an alkali metal sa an oxygen-containing solvent; and a metal ester compound represented by the following general formula (1): M[-O-(A-O)-R](1). In the electrolyte solution, the content of the alkali metal salt is 4-88 mass%. Otherwise, the oxygen-containing solvent of such a quantity that the oxygen-containing solvent/the alkali metal salt(mole ratio) is 0.7 or more and 4.0 or less is present in the electrolyte solution.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
