Bottles (100) having upper portions curled inwardly at the bottle inlet and methods and tools for producing such bottles. The top portions curled inward can reduce the likelihood of material cleavage because they give compressive stress to the bottle material and the top portion can not be stretched to a larger outer diameter, such as the upper portions curled outward. The inwardly curved upper portions may be formed using rollers 500 having an entrance radius 504 located near the outer diameter of the bottle inlet. The inward curl is formed as the bottle material enters the rollers near the entry surface 502 of the rollers, travels through the work surface 506 of the rollers, and exits the rollers to the exit surface 510 of the rollers. The resulting inward curl meets the edge of the bottle material near the inner surface of the bottle.
