The present invention relates to a Rhodobacter capsulatus PS-2 strain for promoting crop growth, and uses thereof. More specifically, the present invention relates to a Rhodobacter capsulatus PS-2 strain which produces a crop growth-promoting substance not only in anaerobic-light conditions, but also in aerobic-dark conditions; an agricultural microbial preparation comprising the strain or a culture broth thereof as an effective component; and a crop growth promoter comprising the strain. According to the present invention, the strain producing a crop growth substance, Rhodobacter capsulatus PS-2, is isolated and a medium composition and culture conditions for a large-batch production of a bioactive substance of the strain is established so that the present invention is expected to be widely utilized in crop growth promoters as an agricultural microbial preparation.
