The present invention relates to chitosan core-gold shell nanoparticles in which cores containing magnetic nanoparticles mixed in chitosan particles are coated with gold; and to a method of preparing the same. The core-shell nanoparticles according to the present invention only contain materials substantially non-toxic to a human body, and have excellent biocompatibility. Thus, the core-shell nanoparticles may be used as a drug carrier suitable for delivering a drug to a particular site. The present invention may be used by incorporating magnetic particles inside a drug carrier without an additional coating treatment. Additionally, the core-shell nanoparticles show little increase in size despite having magnetic nanoparticles incorporated inside the cores, and thus may be used as a nano-sized drug carrier. Accordingly, the core-shell nanoparticles of the present invention can bind a drug to the surface of gold shell, and can deliver the drug to a particular target by using the magnetic nanoparticles or function as a contrast agent capable of tracking the treatment effect of the delivered drug, the progression of a disease, and the state of the surrounding cells.
