The purposes of the present invention are to: demonstrate, through an in vivo experiment inducing a colitis-associated cancer (CAC) initiated by azoxymethane (AOM)and promoted by dextran sodium sulfate (DSS), that an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (ω-3 PUFA) has anticancer mechanisms, such as selective cytotoxicity against colon cancer cells by means of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest, inhibition of β-catenin complex degradation, and inducement of a tumor-inhibiting 15-PGDH; and complete the useful information, for future clinical applications, that the dietary intake of 3g of the omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid per 60kg of weight can result in the same ω-6 : ω-3 ratio in tissue as that seen in the colon of a fat-1 mouse. The present invention provides an anticancer composition for reducing colitis-associated cancer development and treating such cancer, comprising an ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid as an active ingredient, wherein 3g of the ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid as an active ingredient is administered per 60kg per day.
