摘要
The present invention relates to a process for preparing nanoparticles of gamma (y) alumina in large scale at very low cost (1000 INR/kg). The present work demonstrates a simple method for the synthesis of nanoparticles of y- alumina . The process comprising making of sodium aluminate (NaAlC) using Al ( 99% pure) metal in the form of chips in sodium hydroxide solution, their precipitation to aluminum hydroxide followed by filtration, repeated washing with water and finally by propyl alcohol, drying at 100°C and calcination at 450°C to obtain nanoparticles of y-alumina. After carrying characterization using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy attached with electron diffraction spectroscopy (EDS), fourier transform infra red spectroscopy (FTIR), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and BET surface area analysis it was confirmed that the synthesized nanoalumina particles presnt in their gamma phases of around 20-30 nm particle size of reasonably high surface area ( 250 m /g). Fluoride adsorption potential of the synthesized nanoalumina particles was examined in water which show around 20-25 mg/gm adsoiption rate which is significant for the development of defluoridation technology using synthesized nanoparticles of gamma alumina.
