A porous interconnected corrugated carbon (iccn) mesh composite and methods for doing the same are disclosed. The porous composite is composed of a plurality of carbon layers which are interconnected and expanded together to form a plurality of pores. Metal nanoparticles are arranged within the plurality of pores. In one embodiment, a method based solely on light exposure to produce the porous icing composite is disclosed. In another embodiment, a light exposure method plus an electrodeposition method for producing the porous icc composite is disclosed. In yet another exemplary embodiment, a capacitor having a first electrode and a second electrode is separated from the first electrode by a dielectric wherein at least one of the first electrode and the second electrode is formed of the porous composite.
