PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel resin that can be an alternative to a diallyl phthalate resin and can improve an elastic modulus of an active energy ray-curable printing ink and glossiness of a coating film of the printing ink when used as a binder for the printing ink.SOLUTION: A modified phenolic resin (1) is provided, which is a reaction product of a phenolic resin (A), a polyvalent carboxylic acid cyclic anhydride (B), and a glycidyl compound (C) containing an aromatic glycidyl compound (c1). The modified phenolic resin (1) is preferably a reaction product of, in addition to the above components, at least one compound selected from a compound having a carboxylic acid in the molecule and a copolymer having a carboxylic acid and an aryl group. More preferably, the modified phenolic resin (1) contains a phosphite compound (E) as a reaction component.SELECTED DRAWING: None
