Process for manufacturing a composite material comprising vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VACNT) and a copper metal matrix coating said nanotubes, said process comprising at least the following steps: a) a provision of vertically aligned nanotubes (VACNT) deposited on a substrate, b) the electrochemical deposition of said metal matrix on said vertically aligned nanotubes from a solution that is in contact with said VACNTs, said solution comprising at least one precursor of said metal matrix and at least one organic solvent, said process being characterized in that: - said at least one precursor is selected from the group formed by: copper acetate (Cu(CH3COO)2), copper formate, copper propionate; and in that - said electrochemical deposition is a galvanostatic electrodeposition.
