PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel material capable of obtaining a carburization component having excellent flexural fatigue properties after a carburization treatment, without generating coarse Al-based nitride even in a component system with comparatively high Al content, and also to provide an effective method for producing such a steel material and a carburization component that presents the above properties.SOLUTION: A steel material includes, C of 0.15-0.25%, Si of 0.05-0.30%, Mn of 0.5-1.0%, Cr of 1.0-1.5%, Al of 0.15-0.25%, N of 0.0030-0.025%, and a balance including iron and inevitable impurities. The inevitable impurities are limited to include P of 0.015% or less (not including 0%), S of 0.02% or less (not including 0%) and O of 0.0025% or less. The maximum equivalent circle diameter of Al-based nitride present in the steel is 0.5 μm or less.
