PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holding material for a catalytic converter which is excellent in heat resistance, can exhibit excellent durability even when it is used for a long period, can be manufactured at low cost, and is excellent in a holding property.SOLUTION: A holding material 3 for a catalytic converter which is arranged in a gap between a catalytic carrier 1 and a casing 2 for accommodating the catalytic carrier 1, consists of a fiber assembly containing skeleton fibers consisting of one or more kinds of fibers to be selected from alumina fibers, mullite fibers, alumina silicate fibers, silica fibers, and biosoluble fibers, and the inside of which glass molten materials are scattered, in which the skeleton fibers are stuck to each other by the glass molten materials. In the holding material 3 for the catalytic converter, the glass molten materials are the molten materials of glass fibers at 700-1000°C of softening points. The holding material 3 for the catalytic converter contains 50-99.9 pts. mass of the skeleton fibers, and 0.1-50 pts. mass of the glass molten materials when the total amount of the skeleton fibers and the glass fibers is defined as 100 pts. mass.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
