PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent air bubbles or clouded parts from being generated in a laterally sealed part even when a tube-shaped film is laterally sealed while liquid is present between the films.SOLUTION: A vertical filling and packaging machine comprises: a pair of squeezing rollers 6 which form a flat part 12 in a tube-shaped film 1 by rotating in association with downward feeding of the tube-shaped film 1 while squeezing a part of the tube-shaped film 1 where a product is present; and a lateral sealing device 9 which is arranged below the pair of the squeezing rollers 6 and forms a laterally sealed part by welding the films together across the entire width of the flat part 12 of the tube-shaped film 1. The lateral sealing device 9 is provided with a pair of metallic blocks 9a, 9b which extend in the lateral direction of the tube-shaped film 1 and are arranged facing each other with the tube-shaped film 1 in between. One of the pair of the blocks 9a, 9b is a horn having an ultrasonic vibrator while the other block is an anvil for receiving the horn.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
