A method and an apparatus for constructing a seed group in a peer-to-peer application are provided. The method specifically includes the following steps: at first, a client obtains initial seeds from a seed server; the seed server returns a certain number of initial seeds according to a configuration policy; the client then constructs an initial seed group according to the returned initial seeds; and the seeds of the initial seed group interact with each other and obtain seed information of the other seed groups, and a new seed group is formed according to the obtained seed information. Therefore, a more stable relationship is established among each seed of the new seed group, the service can be provided in time when network resources are needed, and the management of each seed can be carried out on the client, thereby greatly reducing management pressure and cost of the server, improving the utilization ratio of the seeds and further enhancing user experience. A method for using the seed group is also provided.
