A method for reducing the thickness of asphalt pavement, a method for producing an asphalt pavement material having increased aggregate-aggregate contact points, and a method for producing an asphalt pavement material having improved cold crack performance are provided. A method for reducing the thickness of asphalt pavement includes mixing base asphalt, oxidized polyolefin, and aggregate to form an asphalt pavement material. A layer of asphalt pavement material is deposited on the substrate layer to achieve high temperature drilling equal to or less than the compressed asphalt pavement material formed from aggregate and base asphalt without using oxidized polyolefin. However, it is compressed to a thickness smaller than the thickness of the compressed asphalt pavement material formed from aggregate and base asphalt without using oxidized polyolefin.
