An end cap assembly 26 for the electrochemical cell 10 having an end cap 24, a current collector 20, and a seal 22. The current collector 20 includes a columnar body 32 having a head 34 at one end. The seal 22 has a central boss 36 having an opening 38 through which the current collector 20 is inserted. The seal 22 also has a peripheral edge portion 40 and a connecting portion 42 that connects the central boss 36 to the peripheral edge portion 40. The top surface 48 of the center boss 36 faces the bottom surface 50 of the end cap 24, and the bottom surface 50 of the center boss 36 does not extend below the bottom surface 46 of the connection portion 42. The current collector 20 is positioned in the opening 38 of the center boss 36 so that the head 34 of the current collector 20 does not contact the upper surface 48 of the center boss 36. A gap of about 0.01 mm to about 0.50 mm is formed between the upper surface 48. The head 34 of the current collector 20 is electrically connected to the bottom surface 30 of the end cap 24.
