PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably measure a tail clearance in a tail part of a shield machine by a relatively simple constitution.;SOLUTION: A method for measuring a tail clearance of a shield machine includes the steps of: shortening a shield jack and constructing a segment ring in a tail part (S1, S2); measuring a distance Ds from a reference position in the tail part to an inner surface of the segment ring by using a distance sensor (S4); extending the shield jack, extruding the segment ring towards a back side of the tail part, and propelling a boring machine body forward by reaction force of the segment ring (S5); measuring a distance Dt from the reference position in the tail part to an inner surface of the tail part by a distance sensor (S6); and calculating a tail clearance value Ct on the basis of the measured distance Dt and distance Ds (S7).
