Screening products to identify a compound modulating the pigmentation of keratin fibers and/or protecting melanocytes of hair follicle, comprises (a) microdissecting human hair follicles, implementing a method for in vitro culture of follicles and then incubating two cultures with a marker of melanocyte activity of hair follicles, (b) incubating the cultures with products to be tested, (c) measuring the incorporation of marker of melanocyte activity, and (d) selecting the compounds of which an incorporation modulation of the marker of melanocyte activity is measured in the culture. Screening products to identify at least one compound modulating the pigmentation of keratin fibers and/or protecting melanocytes of hair follicle, comprises: (a) microdissecting human hair follicles, implementing a method for in vitro culture of follicles, and then incubating two cultures with a marker of melanocyte activity of hair follicles; (b) incubating the cultures prepared in (a) with one or more products to be tested; (c) measuring (qualitatively and/or quantitatively) the incorporation of marker of melanocyte activity in human hair follicles for cultures prepared in (a) and (b); and (d) selecting the compounds of which an incorporation modulation of the marker of melanocyte activity is measured in the culture prepared in (b) with respect to a control culture obtained in (a) prepared under the same conditions but in the absence of the compound to be tested. An independent claim is included for a kit for screening products to identify a compound modulating the pigmentation of keratin fibers and/or protecting melanocytes of hair follicle.
