Provided is a reagent composition which can reduce the bonding of a non-analyte component through a non-specific reaction, can improve the dispersion capability of an analyte, can improve the developability on a chromatography carrier, can enhance a specific reaction, and therefore can determine the analyte accurately and rapidly even when the analyte is contained at a low concentration in the measurement of the analyte by nucleic acid chromatography or immunochromatography.A reagent composition for nucleic acid chromatography or immunochromatography, which comprises a water-soluble polymeric compound having a weight average molecular weight of 8000 or more, a salt of a bivalent or trivalent metal, a nonionic surfactant, and a water-soluble aprotic organic compound.
