The method involves determining (102) refresh requirement of the digital road map, based on transmitted (101) status of digital road map. The update data of the digital road map is transmitted (103) to a mobile communication device (202), according to the need for updating of the central server. The transmitted update data is stored (104) in the mobile communication device. The received update data is transmitted (105) from the mobile communication device to a navigation system (201) through a short range interface (204). The update data of digital road map is updated (106). An independent claim is included for a system for updating digital road map of navigation system of vehicle.
