The method involves dynamically adapting engaging- or use threshold of an anti-lock braking system to adhesion properties of vehicle wheels or to respective vehicle axes or to the respective vehicle wheel. An initial speed starting the anti-lock braking system and a value derived from the tire temperature, particularly model-based estimated value of the tire temperature are considered during the adaption of the engagement- or use threshold of the anti-lock braking system.
