The machine (1) has a piston arranged in a cylinder bore and axially moveable in the cylinder bore along axis of the cylinder bore. The piston limits a workspace in the cylinder bore, and work fluid is conveyed into the workspace via a controllable inlet (10). The work fluid is conveyed from the workspace by a controllable outlet (11). Controlling of the inlet and/or the outlet is carried out by rotation of the piston around the axis. A swash plate i.e. rotary valve, is connected with a shaft i.e. crankshaft, and the piston comprises an inlet control recess at an outer side.
