A gas explosion suppression system and method for a coal mine. The system comprises a gas detection module (1) for detecting concentrations of methane and oxygen at an upper corner (10) of a coal mining working surface and an intrinsic safety type anti-explosion control valve (2) electrically connected to the gas detection module. The intrinsic safety type anti-explosion control valve is electrically connected to an inert gas releasing device (12) which is used for releasing inert gases to the upper corner of the coal mining working surface so as to dilute the concentrations of oxygen and methane, and is electrically connected to a wind shielding device I (6) which is used for preventing oxygen in an air way from entering the upper corner of the coal mining working surface. The explosion suppression method comprises: Step 1, detection of concentrations of methane and oxygen; Step 2, judgment of the concentrations of methane and oxygen; Step 3, dilution of methane and oxygen; and Step 4, discharge of the diluted methane and oxygen. The devices of the present invention have high working reliability, the underground gas explosion suppression purpose is realized, and the coal mining safety is improved.
