Processes are provided forthe production of styrene monomer by oxidativedehydrogenation of EB using CO2as a soft oxidant. Carbon dioxide is used asthe reaction diluent in one or more dehydrogenationreactors and to supply the heat requiredfor the endothermic reaction of EBto styrene monomer. In the dehydrogenationreactors, two parallel reactions for styrenemonomer formation occur simultaneously:(1) direct EB dehydrogenation to styrenemonomer over a catalyst using heat providedby the carbon dioxide, and (2) oxidativedehydrogenation of EB with carbon dioxideto form styrene monomer.
