The present invention relates to a multisensory system developed for the navigation assistance of blind or visually impaired people in order to guide the user by using a fusion between a gps sensor and another of artificial vision. The system indicates to the user the path he has to follow to reach a destination avoiding obstacles, using acoustic information obtained by means of a speech synthesizer. It is composed of four subsystems. The vision subsystem obtains a depth image from a stereo camera. The gps subsystem allows geo-referencing visual information in order to obtain 3d maps of large environments. The functions that are responsible for the assistance system are executed in the processing subsystem. The acoustic signaling subsystem serves to give the corresponding navigation warnings and avoidance of obstacles to the user as well as providing navigation destinations.
