A method for generating a authenticating key for determining an authenticity of a consumer good, the authenticating key comprising a combination of at least one of: a category of the manufacturer of the consumer good; an identification number assigned to the manufacturer of the consumer good; a batch number of the consumer good; a unique number assigned to the consumer good in the batch number. The authenticating key used for determining the authenticity of the consumer good and retrieve the details associated with the consumer good.
