PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting insert made of TiCN based cermet which is superior in chipping resistance and finished surface accuracy and can form a high quality cutting surface with gloss and its manufacturing method thereof.;SOLUTION: In the cutting insert made of TiCN based cermet, a wet blasting is applied to a surface, and a residual stress of a hard phase of the surface part of the insert is set to 450 MPa or higher in compression. In a surface roughness of the insert, an arithmetical mean roughness Ra in a cut-off value of 0.08 mm is set to 0.2 μm or smaller. Thus, the damage resistance to a thermal shock and a mechanical shock in a wet cutting and an intermittent cutting is improved and the high quality cutting surface is obtained which is excellent in finished surface accuracy and has the gloss.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
