The method involves determining collision risk of a motor car (1) with an object (O) e.g. tree, based on a risk rating by a driving safety coordinator. An avoidance recommendation to a vehicle operator or an avoidance support for the vehicle operator is output or autonomous intervention for switching is performed by the driving safety coordinator based on criticality of driving conditions and signal quality of environment data. A dominant measure that is high criticality of the driving conditions and better signal quality of the environment data, is made by the driving safety coordinator.
