The roll forming apparatus (100) comprises several sets of rollers (30-60), and an axially extending profile molding unit (12) for molding the sheet metal material (11). Partial hardening of the sheet metal material is carried out with the roller set (50). The partially hardened sheet metal material is heated with the integrated heating devices (55,56). A cooling device (65) is arranged to selectively cool the partially heated metal material. A shielding device (70) is arranged to reduce the cooling amount of the partially heated sheet metal material.
