PURPOSE: A hole detecting device and a method using a crossed light source are provided to reduce costs for installing equipment and maintaining as separate additional equipment for preparing a width change of a steel sheet and meandering thereof is not necessary.;CONSTITUTION: A hole detecting device using a crossed light source comprises a line scan camera(10), a light source(20), a signal processing unit(30), and a display unit(40). The line scan camera is installed on the top surface of a steel sheet(100) and generates linear images by detecting lights incident at a constant cycle. The light source, which is installed under the steel sheet, irradiates for a first time at odd-number detection periods and for a second time shorter than the first time at even-number detection periods. The signal processing unit separates and rearranges the linear images generated at the odd-number detection periods among the linear images input by the line scan camera, thereby generating first images. The signal processing unit separates and rearranges the linear images generated at the even-number detection periods among the linear images input by the line scan camera, thereby generating second images.
