PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image deterioration by avoiding a sudden increase in load torque on an intermediate transfer belt motor when mode is changed from monochrome image formation mode to color image formation mode.;SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has the color image forming mode and the monochrome image forming mode for forming an image using a single photoreceptor, and the rotational speed of the photoreceptor in the color image forming mode is different from that in the monochrome image forming mode. In the image forming apparatus, when the monochrome image forming mode is changed to the color image forming mode from the monochrome image forming mode (S101-Y), the rotational speed of the photoreceptor is changed so that a motor current of a motor that drives an image forming medium to which an image is transferred in contact with the photoreceptor is equal to a motor current in the monochrome image forming mode (S102).
