Apparatus for detecting apnea consisting essentially of a housing fixed to the infant's bed or an adult capable of following the recurrent millimeter movements resulting from its breathing, the detection of possible apneas is the result of the correlation of at least 2 types of sensors: at least one passive infrared pyrotechnic type sensor, at least one optical camera. the infrared pyrotechnic sensors are provided with Fresnel lenses which make it possible to have an appropriate field coverage. The optical camera has a high definition to detect micros movements recurrent infant breathing. The images captured by the camera are processed by a specific software capable of discriminating respiratory movements in a consequent background noise and makes it possible to identify a possible apnea, the device decides that there is apnea if and only if both types sensors together detect apnea, which allows a very high reliability.
